The Noble Mermaid

undine

I had a vision of an Undine, the classic image of the mermaid sitting on a rock, combing her long hair, looking in the mirror. Is this arrogance? I looked closer and saw that, no, her hair is filled with tiny sea creatures that have caught up in the thick strands. She uses the comb to gently tease them out and then releases them back to the ocean. The mirror helps her see the ones in the back.
(I did not paint the portrait. It comes from an old decorator magazine. I will do that sometime when I have no intention of exhibiting or selling the work. This is a private journal.)
